Birdwatching Competition
The annual competition starts on the last Saturday of November at 06:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. The goal is to collect bird observations from the numerous birdwatchers attending the event, simultaneouseously. Data can be gathered across the competition area including the town of Tata, the Ferencmajor Fishponds and the section of the Danube between Almásfüzitő and Süttő. Registration, competition start and submission of shall results take place at the Birdwatching Tower, the central hub of the Tata Wild Geese Festival. Participants submit their species lists at the registration site.
Each team must have three members, they can be accompanied by an observer whose name must be recorded in the booklet. The observer must maintain a passive role throughout the competition. Observers are not allowed to assist in spotting or identifying birds, use a telescope, or provide any form of aid to the team.
Awards
- Youth Category (underage teams of 18> yo members): A minimum of five registered teams is required for evaluation.
- Adult Category (all team members 18+ yo)
Prizes:
Awards include a trophy, books, T-shirts, mugs, etc. The value and content vary according to rank and category.
Special Awards (Paintings):
- „Best Bird Species of the Festival” Award – Determined by the competition committee based on the species’ national and international rarity status, primarily recognising the observation of rare birds.
- „Most Valuable Conservation Data” Award – Given for the most significant conservation-related observation, such as recording an endangered species or reading an identification ring on any species.
- „Most Colour Rings Identified” Award – Awarded to the team that records the highest number of colour-ring readings in the competition booklet.
