Ferencmajor Bird Ringing Station

The main goal of the bird ringing station is to raise awareness among children, students, and adults, to mark birds by standardized scientific protocols, and to build capacity for future nature conservation efforts.


Operation: From April through May and from July through November.


Main activities include:
– Spring bird ringing for 4-5 weeks
– Ringing birds according to protocol
– Two-week celebration of Birds and Trees Day
– Night of Nightingales programs
– Ferenc Hopp Bird Ringing Camp for 4-6 weeks
– Dark Sky Programme
– Autumn bird ringing for ten weeks
– European Bird Watching Days on the first weekend of October
– Guided tours and bird ringing for interested parties.

 

Over 2,000 visitors come to the Ferencmajor Bird Ringing Station annually, most of whom are kindergarten and primary school students.


More than 130,000 birds of 170 species have been marked by ringers at the station.

The Ferencmajor Bird Ringing Station is operated by the Száz Völgy Nature Conservation Organization, Komárom-Esztergom County Local Group of Birdlife Hungary, and the Danube-Ipoly National Park Directorate.
